Hello. I'm mammy from the ApparelX Trend Blog editorial team.
In recent years, denim has appeared in various different forms every season.
We have previously explained the basics of denim textile on ApparelX News , so be sure to check that out too.
[The eternal casual standard ] What kind of textile is textile ? How is it different from jeans?
Well, this time I would like to introduce you to the unique "decorative denim" that is a hot recent trend, and some typical denim textile processing methods.
"Decorative denim," a hot trend for spring/summer 2025, refers not only to denim that is dyed with the usual indigo and faded, but also to denim that has been highly decoratively processed and designed.
The brand's unique style features visual and tactile accents such as embroidery, applique, prints, jewels, cutwork, and laser patterns.
Let's take a look at one fashion house's Spring/Summer 2025 collection as an example.
This denim is intricately decorated with a feather pattern using CHANEL rhinestones.
The size and color scheme of the rhinestones have been carefully calculated, creating a very elegant pair of jeans with soft feathers layered over the normally stiff denim.
This is from CHANEL's ready-to-wear collection, featuring sequins on the hems of the denim.
The sequin embroidery on these pants took 65 hours to create using the Luneville crochet technique.
The beauty of the hand-embroidered sequins, like a gradation, is already in the realm of art.

The decorative denim introduced earlier often has decorations applied to the textile, but by processing the denim textile it is possible to create unique features.
The following are some of the most common processing methods.
① One Wash

Features: Can create a vintage look and uneven coloring. Creates a unique fading.

⑤ Used Finish / Vintage Finish
Overview: Artificially recreates the faded color and distressed look of shoes that have been worn for years.
Features: Includes detailed facial expressions such as whiskers (wrinkles on the thighs) and hachinosu (wrinkles behind the knee lining).
⑥ Damage processing (crushed processing)
Overview: Processing that involves drilling holes or cracks.
Characteristics: Often used by rock and street brands.
⑦ Coating process (wax / resin / PU coat, etc.)
