I went to the SHIBAYA 21SS exhibition~~

This Wednesday, I attended SHIBAYA’s 21SS exhibition. The other day, while working on a translation project and looking up local Chinese names for makers, I came across SHIBAYA for the first time. SHIBAYA Co., Ltd. was founded in Osaka in 1907 as a textile trading company, and it handles everything from planning and development to production and sales, mainly focused on natural fibers such as cotton and linen. In recent years, it has been active not only in Japan but also overseas, and it has an office in Shanghai as well.

When I entered the venue, a natural atmosphere filled the space, and my irritation from the blazing sun outside quickly faded.

As I looked through the neatly displayed textiles and pattern books one by one, cotton and linen were indeed overwhelmingly the most common.

Recommended textiles

This time, based on sales rankings, I’d like to recommend the top 3 linen items.

First, I’d like to introduce SB8844-1 "1/40 French Linen Canvas Wash Finish" and SB8866-1 "1/60 French Linen Canvas Wash Finish". Made with 100% linen, they have a soft texture. I think their excellent color vibrancy is another great feature. The Wash Finish gives them a natural feel, and I think they are perfect for shirts, dresses, skirts, and more. Also, personally, I love natural materials such as cotton and linen, so if I could make a shirt out of this textile, I’d want to buy it~

Next is SB8760 "1/60 Linen Wash Finish"

This product comes in a wide range of colors. It uses high-quality linen grown only in certain regions centered on northern France, which is known as one of the world’s leading linen-producing areas, with excellent suppleness, softness, luster, and durability. If you’re looking for a luxurious linen textile, please take a look.

What is herringbone?

By the way, there were many products with a herringbone weave at the exhibition as well. When I first joined the company, I didn’t understand any weave structures other than plain weave. My supervisor taught me that herringbone (杉綾織り) is called “herring bone” because its appearance resembles the bones of a herring. At that moment, I felt the charm of Japanese once again. No matter how many years you study, there are always many unfamiliar coined terms.

Summary

There were many products besides the textiles introduced above.

In response to the current special circumstances, there are also new antiviral products, as well as textiles with cooling and quick-drying functions for summer.

In addition to the textiles introduced this time, please be sure to check out SHIBAYA’s textiles on ApparelX.

Lastly, at this exhibition, it was very enjoyable to touch various textiles, learn specialized knowledge, and talk with my supervisor and colleagues about many things. I look forward to your continued support.
