Comfortable Fabrics to Get You Through Summer 1: Shine Cool

Hello.

The temperature rises after Golden Week... I’m sure many of you are thinking the same thing.

"It’s hot when you wear a mask..."

Given the current situation, in which the government cannot accurately grasp the number of infected people and momentum is building toward lifting the state of emergency, I think the number of times we will need to wear masks this summer will probably increase as well.

So this time, I would like to introduce functional materials that offer excellent cool-touch and moisture-wicking, quick-drying properties.

Shine Cool

This is the name of a specially constructed thread that wraps a diffusivity-excellent W-section polyester around a photocatalytic rayon with various functions.

The textile made using this thread is called Shine Cool textile.

Below, I would like to explain in detail.

What is a photocatalyst?

This refers to titanium dioxide. When light (ultraviolet rays) shines on this titanium dioxide, electrons move and organic matter is broken down. This decomposition effect provides functions such as antibacterial and deodorizing performance.

What is W-section polyester?

The cross section of regular polyester is circular. W-section polyester has higher water absorption than regular polyester and also excels at releasing absorbed moisture, so it has better moisture-wicking, quick-drying performance than regular polyester.

About cool-touch

This is a relative judgment, but it means that rayon itself feels cooler to the touch than cotton and similar materials.

By using that rayon material together with W-section polyester, which has excellent moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties, it may be possible to maintain a cool-touch feel without stickiness.

283 Shine Cool 40 High-Gauge Jersey (36G)

This is a high-gauge jersey using 40-count single yarn. It can be used as a standard cut-and-sewn material.

286 Shine Cool 40 Smooth

This is a double-knit material made with the same 40-count single yarn.

Its smoother hand feel is a notable feature.

287 Shine Cool 40 Reversible Mesh

This is a mesh material made with the same yarn that can be used on both sides.

It is more breathable.

About stock

As for Shine Cool introduced so far, stock is currently very low.

However, at ApparelX, we check stock status regularly, and for available color numbers, you can also place orders as reservations. Please check the stock status below and the product pages for detailed lead times.

Also, similar functional materials are listed on each product page, so please take a look.

Summary

Due to the impact of the coronavirus, it feels like functional materials themselves are being re-evaluated once again.

It seems that stock of disposable nonwoven masks is improving little by little, but for masks worn in summer as a barrier against droplets, cloth masks made from materials with cool-touch and moisture-wicking, quick-drying properties may be more useful.
