This time, I’d like to introduce Oharayaseni Co., Ltd., also known for the saying, “linen isn’t just for summer.”
I’ll also highlight some products that drew strong attention at the exhibition held in March.
Oharayaseni Co., Ltd. is a textile manufacturer/trading company based in Osaka that plans and sells high-quality original Japanese-made textiles centered on natural materials such as linen, wool, cotton, and silk.
They mainly produce original textiles that take advantage of the characteristics of each production region in Japan, including Omi and Hamamatsu, which are known for their expertise in linen fabrics, Mitsuke, which has a long history as a yarn-dyed production area, and Bishu, famous for wool fabrics.
This year marks their 39th year in their current business format.
The first thing that stands out about Oharayaseni is that the textiles they handle are mainly natural materials.
They are especially strong in linen, handling a wide variety of fabrics such as high-density linen weather cloth, linen twill, linen oxford, 100% ramie, silk linen, and cotton-linen.
Rather than simple plain weave fabrics, many of their products have character created through construction, yarn count, and finishing. They also offer unique fabrics that combine natural materials such as silk linen, cotton silk, and washi blends, and their strong planning capabilities are a major strength of Oharayaseni.
They are highly recommended for anyone looking for distinctive fabrics made with “natural fibers” or “linen.”
Here are the products that drew strong attention at the "textile exhibition 'LINK ELEMENTS'" held this March.
Oharayaseni’s fabrics are supported by many brands and come in a wide range of styles, so in the second half I’ll introduce popular items by taste and style.
Safilin linen refers to high-quality linen yarns and fabrics produced by Safilin, the oldest long-established linen spinning company in Europe, founded in France in 1778.
This material uses 44-count yarn, the essence of linen refined through European history, and has been finished with a washed, washer-finish-like texture.
How about using it for refined summer blouses and shirts?
This delicate lawn fabric is made of 85% cotton and 15% linen.
The fabric is carefully drum dyed in small lots and naturally dried in the sun, giving it a natural dry touch and a textured wrinkled look.
With its soft, fluffy hand and the sheer quality unique to lawn fabric, it is recommended for light summer shirts.
*Drum dyeing:A dyeing method in which fabric and dye are placed in a small cylindrical dyeing machine and dyed by hand in a craft-like manner.
The beautiful, gentle colors reminiscent of cherry blossoms, fresh green, hydrangeas, and other traditional Japanese tones, along with the natural wrinkles and uneven coloration, give this fabric a calm, mature feel.
It has the crisp, dry texture unique to linen, so it should keep you cool even in summer.
In order to express and convey the rich character of linen, they focus on small-lot, hands-on production, and without applying mechanical pressure or tension to the greige fabric, they spend a long time on scouring and dyeing. For drying, they use sun drying to preserve the natural character of the fabric.
This product number is a slightly lighter weight fabric, so it is suitable for shirts and blouses.
In the same series,ODA24164 fanafe linen series【40/1】 uses a thicker yarn, so it is also recommended for pants and jackets.
The ripstop weave gives the fabric a textured surface, making it feel smooth against the skin.
The ripstop pattern is very fine, and the natural wrinkled look makes this a fabric that stands out even with simple designs.
It uses organic cotton and has a soft touch, making it a comfortable choice for summer.
This weather cloth combines cotton yarn and linen yarn, and is softened and given body through rubbing in the fabric at every stage of the process, resulting in a natural washer-finish feel.
With its relaxed look, it is also recommended for pants and jackets.
This fabric is woven in Hamamatsu, a linen weaving production area, using 60/1 linen greige fabric, then slowly dyed at a dyeing mill in Hamamatsu, and finished without putting unnecessary tension on the fabric.
The uneven surface that looks as if it has been washed and left to dry naturally creates just the right amount of relaxed feel. How about using it for pants or shirts?
As the name suggests, this ultra-high-density satin surprises you with how smooth the surface feels to the touch.
The reverse side has a strong slub texture from the linen, so you can enjoy the different expressions on the front and back.
It has a smooth drape and a beautiful fall, making it recommended for spring and summer skirts and dresses.
This fabric comes in a spring/summer color range including striking blue, and because it uses fine-count ramie, it has an especially thin and light feel.
The depth created by the weave of the yarn, along with the moderate firmness and sheen unique to ramie, gives it both elegance and beauty.
This fabric is woven with linen in the warp and alternating linen and silk yarns in the weft.
The complex color gradation and the unique melange-like structure give it a distinctive character.

It really made me realize once again how a single material can produce such a wide variety of fabrics through differences in yarn thickness, weaving methods, and finishing.
