Summer UV Protection Measures

As summer begins, temperatures and humidity rise, and the sunlight gets stronger too. Because ultraviolet rays from the sun can cause our skin and furniture to tan or fade, I think UV protection is necessary to prevent this. So today, I’d like to share some information about UV protection.

Ultraviolet rays are the skin’s worst enemy

It seems that skin aging is caused more by the effects of ultraviolet rays and the like than by natural aging. Skin aging is a natural process, but 80% of the causes of aging are said to be UVA and UVB rays.

UVA accounts for about 95% of all ultraviolet rays that reach the earth’s surface, and it breaks down and reduces collagen in the skin. Since collagen plays a role in maintaining skin elasticity, a decrease in it causes premature aging such as wrinkles and sagging.

UVB accounts for about 5% of all ultraviolet rays that reach the earth’s surface, and it is said to cause sunburn, which makes the skin red.

In particular, because UVA easily passes through clouds and windows, I think it is necessary to protect against UVA not only in summer, but also on cloudy days and indoors.

How to deal with UV protection

There are physical and chemical ways to protect against UV.

Physical UV protection blocks sunlight with actual items such as UV-protective clothing, hats, curtains, and umbrellas.

Chemical UV protection uses sunscreen and the like to avoid ultraviolet rays. However, for me, leaving aside my face, I have had an allergic reaction to the chemical ingredients in sunscreen and it made me itchy, so rather than applying sunscreen to my body every day, a rash guard hoodie is more convenient.

Speaking of rash guard hoodies, I first came across UV protection when registering products for work. Among them, I think fabrics with UV-blocking functions such as "330 40 jersey Center Island RUV" and "42877 Space Master UV ponte" are ideal for rash guard hoodies.

That’s because, in addition to UV-blocking functions, they also have cooling touch, moisture absorption, antibacterial, and anti-pilling functions. In autumn and winter, we wear several thick layers of clothing, so ultraviolet rays can be blocked naturally, but in spring and summer, I think rash guard hoodies or long-sleeve shirts with a cooling touch function are the best choice. I’d like to wear clothes made from this fabric in summer.

For more detailed information about the fabric, please refer to "Special feature on fabrics recommended for summer! UV-cut, moisture absorption and quick-drying, and cooling function!".

Summary

I’m sure you’ve heard the advice, "Be careful with sunscreen," many times, but as mentioned above, let’s take various UV protection measures so we can keep our skin healthy, beautiful, and looking young.
