Tagless Print
Tagless Print is a process that applies brand names, sizes, care tags, and other information to the inside of garments by heat transfer, replacing sewn-in labels.

Definition and Overview
Tagless Print is a secondary processing method that transfers printed artwork onto fabric by heat and pressure using a transfer sheet with the design already printed on it. It is often used for name information in areas that easily touch the skin, such as the back of the neck, the sides, and the inside of the waist.
Because it has no sewn edges or sewing thread like a sewn-on name label, it helps reduce skin irritation. On the other hand, since the information is applied directly to the fabric, each product must be checked for peeling, cracking, bleeding, and similar issues after transfer.
Process in Product Manufacturing
In general, the display content and design are finalized, transfer data is created, and then sample transfers and washing tests are performed. In mass production, the transfer is heat-pressed in position using a dedicated press machine on cut parts or on the finished product after sewing.
The processing position is decided together with the pattern, specification sheet, and sewing process. If processing is done near the neckline after sewing, confirm in advance with the factory whether the press platen can reach the area and whether poor adhesion will occur due to seams or uneven surfaces.
- Specify the content, color, size, typeface, and orientation.
- Record the dimensions from the reference point and the allowable tolerance in the specification sheet.
- Check the front and back of the fabric, how the product opens, and whether a pressing cloth is needed during pressing.
- When used as a care tag, confirm that the content and display method are compliant.
Ordering and Practical Checks
When placing an order, share the intended use, fabric composition and color, whether the processing target is a cut part or a finished product, the number of design colors, finished dimensions, and planned quantity. Even with the same design, the suitable transfer specification and pressing conditions change depending on the fabric's stretch, surface fuzz, and whether it has water-repellent treatment.
Prepare the submitted data in the specified format and at actual size, taking into account the fineness of the text and the reproducibility of details. If the display differs by size or color, it is important to manage the data name, plate classification, and quantity breakdown clearly to prevent mix-ups.
Quality Control and Differences from Similar Terms
Quality items to check include peeling or cracking after washing, chipping from friction, discoloration due to sublimation migration, followability during stretching, and changes in hand feel. Testing should be performed on the actual fabric and under mass-production conditions, not only on light-colored fabrics but also on dark fabrics and sublimation-printed fabrics.
Transfer name and transfer label are used almost synonymously with Tagless Print. Printed name may refer broadly to printed labels and can also include sewn fabric labels. Woven label differs in that letters and patterns are woven with yarn and are usually attached by sewing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will Tagless Print peel off when washed?
If suitable transfer materials and pressing conditions are selected, wash durability can be achieved, but the results vary depending on the fabric and processing conditions. It is important to make a sample on the actual fabric before mass production and to verify the expected washing method, drying, friction, and stretching.
Can Tagless Print be applied to any fabric?
It is applied to many apparel fabrics, but attention is needed for water-repellent or waterproof treatments, brushed fabrics, highly uneven knits, and sublimation-printed fabrics because adhesion and color transfer may be affected. Do not judge by composition alone; perform a preliminary test with the actual material.
Can a care tag be made with Tagless Print?
When used as a care tag, the required display items, legibility, and durability must be satisfied. The points to confirm vary depending on the customer, country or region, and product category, so please confirm the content and readability after transfer with the relevant parties.
