(About Kyoto’s woven bekko) Woven bekko is a technical finishing process with a three-layer structure: two clear acrylic plates, and between them materials such as woven fabric or washi paper, along with acrylic resin that is sealed in with the material. By deliberately sealing the material without stretching it taut, a textured surface is created, and the appeal of the fabric or washi paper comes through as it is. As a result, its appearance changes depending on how the light hits it, allowing you to enjoy a variety of expressions.
[About Nishijin-ori] [About Nishijin-ori] It is a general term for high-quality silk textiles woven in Kyoto’s Nishijin district, and does not refer to any specific fabric. The range of textiles produced is extremely broad. It is fair to say there is no other production area that has continued weaving for over 1,000 years, producing many works regarded as masterpieces and always leading Japan’s textile weaving techniques. Among woven fabrics, the leading Nishijin technique is Jacquard weaving, in which the yarn is dyed first to create woven patterns. Compared with piece-dyed or printed textiles, in which plain fabric is dyed or printed afterward, Jacquard pattern expression is characterized by a deep, luxurious appearance.
