JAPAN-CRAFT

Japanese Craft Dyes & Finishes Items

〜 Washi paper yarn, kakishibu, binchotan and sumi dyes, natural indigo, sashiko and Azuma-daki 〜

Fabrics that carry materials, dyes and finishing techniques handed down in Japan: linen and cotton woven with twisted washi-paper yarn; kakishibu persimmon, binchotan charcoal and sumi-ink dyeing; natural-indigo rope-dyed denim; sashiko; Takashima chijimi crepe; hand-printed indigo discharge; and Azuma-daki and Kotohira-daki, dyed little by little on old-style machines and air-dried. Natural dyes and handwork vary by lot and some are dyed to order, so check samples and lead times before bulk production.

This is a really great sashiko fabric
i’ve worked with sashiko fabric from a few different producers and this is my favorite i’ve found. it’s a little bit lighter at 10oz but still plenty substantial. my favorite thing about this fabric is the dye treatment. it has a beautiful natural indigo color that starts out as a deep blue with green hues, and doesn’t fade to a more royal blue like other sashiko ive worked with.

Soft Black with Sumi Dyeing
I was drawn to the black color, which also has a softness from being dyed with ink. The finishing gives it a unique unevenness, creating a real sense of depth in the textile. The textile itself is canvas, so it is a little firm, but the wrinkles created by the Washer Finish, like something that has been washed many times, give it a refined look.
When I was admiring the surface of the textile, my hands became faintly black, so please be careful if using it with light-colored textiles or about color transfer.

Cotton textile with exceptional softness and fresh, vivid color
This textile’s appeal lies in its unique texture, created through traditional Japanese dyeing techniques.
It is extremely soft—so soft you can tell the moment you touch it—and features a fluffy, gentle feel against the skin.
Among Japanese-made cotton textiles, its pale, translucent colors, like watercolor paintings, are relatively rare,
making it especially recommended for bright, lightweight items in the spring and summer seasons.

Frequently asked questions

QCan I place an order for fabric without any joins?
Cut-to-order quantities are possible, but for orders of 5 m or more, piece breaks may occur.
If there is a piece break in a cut order, we cut it a little longer.
Also, even for rolls, there may be piece breaks, so please place your order with some extra allowance (loss).
QI ordered the fabric by roll, but isn’t the quantity the same as what I ordered?
When you order fabric by roll, it is usually arranged as an estimated roll, so the quantity may be slightly above or below the quantity you ordered.
Therefore, if we need to change the quantity from what you ordered, we will notify you of the updated quantity by email each time.
If the quantity is greater, we will request additional payment for the difference; if the quantity is less, we will refund the difference within a few days after shipment is completed.
QI would like the test data for the fabric.
support page, or please include it in the remarks field when placing your order. We will check with the manufacturer.
QThe color of the sample card swatch and the actual fabric I ordered differ. Can it be exchanged?
There may be slight differences depending on the fiber material, and fiber products can vary in color from lot to lot. For that reason, we cannot offer an exchange for slight variations, but if the color difference is significant, we will consult with the manufacturer and arrange an exchange or other appropriate response.
QI would like hang tags and woven labels for fabric with a trademark.
Regarding hang tags and woven labels, if the manufacturer selling them is different, the prices, terms, etc. will also differ. If you order the fabric, we can arrange it from as little as one piece. In principle, hang tags are often available, but woven labels may not be, so when ordering the fabric, please let us know the fabric product number and the number of hang tags/woven labels, etc.
